State-of-the-art production facilities in Beli Izvor cement plant allow utilization of a broad range of wastes as alternative fuels.
The co-processing technology creates serious environmental benefits through reduction of landfilled waste, preservation of non-renewable energy sources (coal and natural gas) and elimination of CO2 emissions resulting from the burning of fossil fuels.
Waste collection and co-processing is carried out by Geocycle Bulgaria EOOD (formerly Ecorec Bulgaria), Holcim Bulgaria's subsidiary. There are four AFR installations at the cement plant in Beli Izvor: one for animal meal, one for waste tyres and two for solid recovered fuel (SRF).
The cement plant in Beli Izvor also uses a range of alternative materials, such as slag (a by-product of metallurgical production in Pirdop) and gypsum rejects from the production of sanitary ware.
