World Environment Day, 5 June 2009

 

Holcim (Bulgaria) AD celebrated the World Environment Day by cleaning the picturesque spot "Chaika" in the area between the village of Zgorigrad and the Vratzata Pass near Vratza. The purpose of the event was to educate the participants in the methods of environment-friendly waste management and stimulate them to adopt a more sustainable and responsible attitude to their living environment.

The event was joined in by students of three local schools, representatives of the municipal administration of Vratsa, the local Environmental Inspectorate and employees of Holcim (Bulgaria) AD. Valuable contribution to the event's success was the participation of the Country Manager of Holcim (Bulgaria) AD, Mr. Todor Kostov, of the Financial Manager, Mrs. Tzvetkova, the HR Director, Mrs. Marinova, the Managing Director of Ecorec, Mr. Ovcharov and the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Holcim (Bulgaria) AD, Mr. Evgeniev.

The outcome of the event was a more beautiful and pleasant countryside and about a ton and a half of waste collected within two hours on a stretch about half a kilometer long. The waste was collected separately in plastic bags of different colours and disposed of in a suitable manner. Holcim took care of its further treatment in compliance with the waste management hierarchy.

The participants took part in competitions in the categories of "Oddest", "Biggest", "Most Valuable" and "Most Colourful" waste collected. The event ended with a competition in the creation of " The Prettiest Monster" made of waste. The two teams deservedly split the first place thanks to their creative imagination and skills.
